Successful burning operations the last 2 days covered over 16 miles of line.

There will be another meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at the community center at 18:30 hours.

No mandatory evacuation order has been issued in the Cachagua/Tassajara region. However, residents have been clearing brush around their homes, and improving their defensible space. Horse owners have been finding safe places to move their animals.

There is a list of people who have offered to help with the animals; Pastures, pens,  corrals, kennels, yards, cages, fish tanks, and anything else that holds pets/livestock are becoming available to Cachagua/Jamesburg/Tassajara residents from our neighbors in Carmel Valley and the peninsula.  Chris Olow is the contact person in regards to the list of people who have offered their assistance. He can be reached at (831) 624-5119 or (831) 596-1425 (cellular).

If you need a place to vacation your cat, Allegra Braun has offered to cat-sit your beloved felines. If you need her assistance, you should put your name on the list at Hacienda Hay & Feed on C.V.R.

A heli-base was established at Eaton's barn at he corner of Tassajara Rd. and C.V.R. All helicopter operations are centered there. Additional air support, including a DC-10 heavy air tanker, has joined the effort. The DC-10 arrived this afternoon and began dropping retardant in the north portion of the fire.

Strike team  fire engines and crews have been able to travel within our district, and to provide valuable support to our community, so please continue to be courteous to all incoming fire crews who are here to help.  The arrival of the strike teams does not indicate an increased risk. Remember that the Fire Service is  preparing for the worst possible scenario. This week, strike teams were escorted by Cachagua Fire Volunteers into each of the various neighborhoods, where they assisted in preparing structures and defensible space. Each and every parcel in this district will get equal treatment. If your neighborhood has not yet been surveyed, it will be soon. Remember that the strike teams are here to help, nothing more, nothing less. It is in our best interest to help them help us. Please drive carefully and slow down. You never know if that next corner is going to present a five engine strike team, navigating through our slim and curvy roads. Do you want to be the one who had a head-on collision with a fire engine during the Basin Complex Fire of 2008? Thought not.

Having completed the dozer line from Chew's Ridge to the Los Padres Dam, the Cachagua dozers continued up Blue Rock Ridge and reached Big Pines. They continued cutting line westward until they touched blades with the dozer teams working from the coast.  The line is complete from Arroyo Seco to the ocean, but will be continually improved and supported as needed. Safety zones are being added to the dozer line and to our neighborhoods to help guarantee the well-being of our residents and all firefighters. A special thanks goes out to the local dozer operators, true heroes- Bishop, King,  Corodray, and Paddock. The teams are now working on contingency lines in various parts of the district.

There will be another meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at the community center at 18:30 hours. The meeting will provide answers to your questions, so if you want to know more, please attend the meeting. This website will notify you of the time and place of any upcoming meetings, so check this link often.

You are encouraged to call the Cachagua Fire Department with any concerns and/or questions by calling (831) 659-7700.
