Basin Complex Fire Update  (61% contained)

This update was prepared at 00:00 hours 7/19/2008.

Community

125,000+ acres burned.

Back-burning operations continue this week. The dozer lines are now staffed with hard-working firefighters. Base camp was moved from the Carmel Valley Village to CVR just east of Tassajara Road.

There might will be another meeting soon at the Cachagua Community Center.

THE MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS FOR ALL OF TASSAJARA ROAD AND CONNECTING ROADS, AND ON CACHAGUA ROAD EAST OF TRAMPA CANYON and on CVR BETWEEN PINEY CREEK RD AND MARTIN RD HAVE BEEN LIFTED.

MOST OF THE DISTRICT IS NOW UNDER VOLUNTARY EVACUATION.  Entry into our community is now limited to emergency vehicles, residents, employees, and deliveries.

Cachagua Fire has called over 80 residents, notifying them of the lifting of the mandatory order. Residents have been calling friends and neighbors to spread the good news.

<SPCA of Monterey County> can help with transporting your animals. Today the SPCA dropped off crates for small animals, food (cat and dog and other) and other equipment at Joleen Lambert Skinner's house. It is near the front entrance. There is no need to bother Joleen and her family. Just take what you need. Be honest.  Leave a note explaining what you took.

Chris Olow is the contact person in regards to the list of people who have offered their assistance in accomodating livestock. He can be reached at (831) 624-5119 or (831) 596-1425 (cellular).

Allegra Braun has offered to cat-sit your beloved felines. If you need her assistance, you should put your name on the list at Hacienda Hay & Feed on C.V.R.

Please drive carefully and slow down.

As of today the District's Task Force has put in over 45 miles of firing and containment lines. This is the MOST important factor in this community's safety.

A special thanks goes out to CA-CFC-Task Force 7756 Lima, which is composed of the district's Heavy Equipment Division:

7756 Lima Leader, Fire Chief Skee Stanley
Dozer-7755 (D-5) Operator Tim Koster
Dozer-7756 (D-6) Operator Terry Bishop
Dozer-7757 (D-6) Operator Dean Coradray
Dozer-7758 (D-6) Operator Callie King

There will be another meeting soon at the Cachagua Community Center. The meeting will provide answers to your questions. If you want to know more, please attend the meeting.

Basin Complex Fire T-shirts for $20.00! Proceeds benefit the Cachagua Fire Volunteers, Big Sur Fire Brigade, and Mid Coast Fire Brigade. The shirts will be sold at the community meetings, the heli-base, the base camp, the Cachagua General Store, and  also in Carmel Valley Village: the Chatterbox Restaurant, the Taqueria Del Valle and PassionFish Restaurant.

Our local resident, Joleen Lambert Skinner, did the artwork, and the shirts are awesome. You will certainly want to help your local firefighters by purchasing a few T-shirts.
