Sitting with Fire by The Jamesburg Crew

CFC update: Successful burning operations continue. Weather continues to be hot, dry and smoky. Lines are holding. The fire moved quite a bit yesterday and is still getting closer.

There will be another meeting soon, at the community center.

BE PREPARED

Entry into our community is now limited to residents and emergency personnel only. Be sure to have identification with you. You might/will have to prove that you are a Cachagua resident.  No mandatory evacuation order has been issued in our area. Yesterday, the CHP was supposed to close Tassajara Road at the forest boundary. Instead they closed the road at the Jamesburg stand. This caused some confusion, but Cachagua Fire and the Forest Service were able to resolve the situation and get the CHP stationed at the correct place.

Residents have been clearing brush around their homes, and improving their defensible space.  There is a chipper/shredder team in the area.  We will do our best to direct the chipper/shredder crew in your direction. Please don't abuse this service. The chipper is for emergency use only.... not for clearing the 'top-40'.  It is intended to save your home and pets. Only cut what is suggested by the Cal Fire guidelines.

Horse owners have been finding safe places to move their animals.

<SPCA of Monterey County> can help.

There is a list of people who have offered to help with the animals; Pastures, pens,  corrals, kennels, yards, cages, fish tanks, and anything else that holds pets/livestock are becoming available to Cachagua/Jamesburg/Tassajara residents from our neighbors in Carmel Valley and the peninsula.  Chris Olow is the contact person in regards to the list of people who have offered their assistance. He can be reached at (831) 624-5119 or (831) 596-1425 (cellular).

If you need a place to vacation your cat, Allegra Braun has offered to cat-sit your beloved felines. If you need her assistance, you should put your name on the list at Hacienda Hay & Feed on C.V.R.

A heli-base was established at Eaton's barn at he corner of Tassajara Rd. and C.V.R. All helicopter operations are centered there. Additional air support, including a DC-10 heavy air tanker, has joined the effort. The DC-10 has been dropping fire retardant on the north portion of the fire. The KUSP website has phenomenal photos of the DC-10 in action.

Remember that the Fire Service is  preparing for the worst possible scenario. This week, strike teams were escorted by Cachagua Fire Volunteers into each of the various neighborhoods, where they assisted in preparing structures and defensible space.  Remember that the strike teams are here to help. It is in our best interest to help them help us. Offer them lemonade.

Please drive carefully and slow down.

The dozer line is complete from Arroyo Seco to the ocean, but will be continually improved and supported as needed. Safety zones have been added to the dozer line and to our neighborhoods to help guarantee the well-being of our residents and all firefighters. A special thanks goes out to the local dozer operators- Bishop, King,  Sanders, Corodray, and Paddock. The teams are now working on contingency lines in various parts of the district.

There will be another meeting soon at the community center. The meeting will provide answers to your questions, so if you want to know more, please attend the meeting. This website will notify you of the time and place of any upcoming meetings, so check this link often.

Basin Complex Fire T-shirts are for sale for $20.00. Proceeds benefit the Cachagua Fire Volunteers, Big Sur Fire Brigade, and Mid Coast Fire Brigade. The shirts will be sold at the meetings, at the heli-base, and in the CV Village. More information about the shirts will be posted in future updates. Our local resident, Joleen Lambert-Skinner, did the art work, and the shirts are awesome. You will certainly want to help your local firefighters by purchasing a few T-shirts.
